I am passionate about education and have been teaching students of all ages for over a decade in the San Francisco Bay Area, Pittsburgh, and currently have a studio of over 15 students in Los Angeles, as well as students from across the country on Zoom. I currently work with students as young as six years old to college music majors to adult amateur students. My students have won principal chairs in their school bands, honor bands, youth orchestras, and top prizes in national/international competitions.

As a native California music student myself, I am well-acquainted with the school ensemble systems, Regional and All-State honor bands, local youth orchestras, and summer programs. I am a registered teacher for the MTAC Certificate of Merit exam system and my students have passed various levels with State Honors, Convention, and Panel Finals.

I have a home recording studio with a professional stereo microphone set up, and I am adept with professional video/audio editing using Logic Pro, Studio One, and Final Cut Pro X. I help my students with professional recordings/editing for online performances and competitions.

I teach effective problem-solving, communication, organization, and time-management skills that are applicable to all aspects of life. Every student receives individualized and structured lesson plans every week. Through my personalized practice plans, students can effectively learn to manage their time and reach their goals. I teach the importance of practicing effectively and efficiently. Coupled with my background in Psychology, I use proven learning techniques to cater my teaching style to each individual and adapt quickly to each student’s needs.

My teaching experience also includes being the flute faculty at California Summer School for the Arts at CalArts, a Teaching Assistant for a large-lecture undergraduate course at UCLA, in addition to currently serving as the Teaching Associate for the UCLA Woodwind Chamber Music class.

My teaching curriculum integrates repertoire spanning of all musical genres, etudes, technical studies, music theory, ear-training, and basic music history. I am committed to helping and inspiring you to achieve your goals, whether you are simply learning for enjoyment or aspiring to win an audition, all while developing your maturity and enjoyment for music.

"Ms. Jo has taught me so much in my past lessons and I have improved both as a flutist and a chamber musician. Not only is my lesson informative, but it is also very entertaining as Ms. Jo teaches in a fun and enthusiastic manner. She also teaches me theory and is very informative and comprehensive. If you are wanting to play flute, I highly recommended studying with Ms. Jo!"

"Flute lessons with Ms. Jennifer are so fun and I learn so much every week. I get a lot of compliments from my band teacher in school and always feel so ahead of everyone. She teaches me technique, classical pieces, Disney songs, and music theory in a very exciting way. She is also so nice and patient so I feel comfortable asking her questions."
